Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Regional Conference on the Elimination of Child Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM / C), organized by the National Council for Women in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood and the African Union, kicked off on Wednesday in partnership with the European Union, UN organizations and Plan International In Egypt.
The opening session was attended by Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women, Ambassador Ahmed Ehab Gamal El Din, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights and International Humanitarian and Social Affairs, Dr. Azza El Ashmawy, Secretary General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, Ambassador Ivan Surkosh, EU Ambassador to Cairo, and Ms. Ms. Suyata Mega, Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Ms. Lucy Assogpour, Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa, and Ms. Cisse Mariama Mohamed, Director of Social Affairs of the European Union Commission. Mrs. Phumzile Mlambo, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Women.
